Our terms of engagement
Our surveys are provided in accordance with the RICS Home Survey Standard, the professional statement of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors that has governed all RICS home surveys since March 2021, and are carried out under the RICS standard terms of engagement.
Our survey service is the RICS Home Survey – Level 2, the successor to the RICS HomeBuyer Report, available with or without a valuation. Our full terms of engagement and scope of works can be downloaded here:
The official description of the service and the RICS standard terms of engagement are also published by RICS:
- Description of the RICS Home Survey – Level 2 (survey only)
- Description of the RICS Home Survey – Level 2 (survey and valuation)
These documents set out the service provided, the scope of the inspection and the report, the surveyor’s qualifications, terms of payment, your cancellation rights under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 and the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and the limits of the surveyor’s liability. The terms form part of the contract between you and the surveyor.
A copy of the terms of engagement for your instruction is provided in writing with every confirmation of instruction, and the fee and scope of the work are agreed before any work begins. If any extra services are agreed (for example costing of repairs or detailed specific issue reports), these require separate terms of engagement.
Valuations
Valuations are carried out by an RICS Registered Valuer in accordance with the RICS Valuation – Global Standards (the ‘Red Book’), which ensures consistent international standards, openness and transparency, and credible, high-quality reports.
Complaints handling procedure
As an RICS-regulated firm we operate a complaints handling procedure and will give you a copy if you ask. It includes contact details for the person responsible for dealing with client complaints and the details of the independent redress scheme we belong to.
